Bethesda Theater marquee The Bethesda Theatre (built as the Boro Theater and currently operated as the Bethesda Theatre Cafe) at 7719 Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda, Maryland, was designed by John Eberson, the renowned movie theater designer whose work includes Silver Spring's Silver Theatre and Silver Spring Shopping Center, in addition to outstanding examples throughout the country. Bethesda Theatre was placed Montgomery County's Master Plan for Historic Preservation (the equivalent of receiving landmark status) in 1986.

ADSW wants to save the theater from development. Developers have proposed construction of an office or residential building above the theater. ADSW is working to assure that the new building is harmonious with the theater and does not obscure the theater's identity. ADSW's nomination to the National Register was approved.

Anyone interested in this matter, especially Montgomery County residents, should contact Linda Lyons, co-chair of ADSW's preservation committee, about supporting ADSW's position and helping with the work of the committee.
