Saturday, August 28, 2010 Brenda Forman's Home Tickets: $15 donation for members, $20 donation for nonmembers Join an ADSW member, Brenda Forman, at her McLean townhouse for an Art Deco Show and Tell afternoon, Saturday, August 28th, 2010 from 2pm to 4pm. You might remember Brenda's lecture last year, featuring her wonderful presentation on the Jewels of Art Deco. Brenda Forman's house is filled with an eclectic assemblage of furnishings and accessories, including several fine Art Deco pieces such as lamps and transitional Nouveau/Deco furniture. Of particular interest is the artwork that literally covers her walls. Again, the mix is eclectic, including two Tibetan tankas, Japanese and Thai rubbings; over a dozen pieces by Eric Demazières and Jean-Michel Mathieux-Marie, two contemporary French master engravers; a group of exact facsimiles of pages from the 14th century Book of Hours of Borso d'Este, plus other assorted works that she has collected over time. Of additional interest is her fine collection of antique Austro-Hungarian Renaissance Revival jewelry, dating to approximately the last quarter of the 19th century. These lovely pieces are part of her considerably larger collection of vintage costume jewelry, but they are her favorites. Members and friends are asked to bring one or more small Art Deco objects to share with the group. Each participant should plan to talk for up to 5 minutes or so about his/her item of interest and spend a small amount of time discussing it with the group. Coffee, tea and light snacks will be served. We ask for either a donation of $15 to Art Deco Society of Washington for members OR that you bring a new member who will join (and get in free). Nonmembers suggested donation is $20. Please RSVP before Monday, Aug 23rd. Because of space limitations, attendance is limited to 10 people. This is a great chance to show off some of your prized Deco pieces. The only thing that we won't do is give appraisals. The complete address will be supplied to those who reserve a spot.
