"Semaphore" Brooch, Gerard Sandoz, late 1920sDr. Brenda Forman will cover the great watershed of World War I and the explosion of the Art Deco style onto the worldwide scene with the Exposition des Art Décoratifs in Paris in 1925. She will explore how the headlong creation of new materials and technologies in the wake of the war both inspired and made possible the striking new departures in color, motifs and materials of Art Deco jewels.

After a long career in government and the aerospace industry, Dr. Brenda Forman retired to pursue her lifelong interest in, and love of, jewelry.

Dr. Forman’s translation from the original French of Henri Vever’s 1906-1908 landmark study, French Jewelry in the 19th Century, was published in late 2001 by Antiquorum Auctioneers (Geneva and New York).

She has spoken on a wide variety of topics in the history of jewelry to major organizations nationwide.

Dr. Forman was featured on the Discovery Channel’s television program, "The Hope Diamond," part of Discovery’s "Unsolved History" series, where she spoke about the great theft of the French Crown Jewels in 1792.

She was a Member of the Faculty of the George Washington University’s Certificate Program in the Decorative Arts, where she taught history of jewelry.
