Cover of Charleston sheet musicThe Art Deco Society brings you Gottaswing instructors Joe and Tabitha Robinson giving a demonstration and instruction in The Charleston and a demonstration in Collegiate Shag.

For the first hour, this class will focus on both aspects of 20’s Charleston. First focusing on the solo Charleston with single, double, and triple time basics and crazy knees. After that we will partner up and focus on leading and following of these same steps while adding side touches, lead turn, follow turn and if time permits break away step. The second hour will be spent practicing the dance to music.

Wear comfortable shoes, flats preferred.

This event is part of The Big Read- D.C. (schedule · blog), presented by the Humanities Council of Washington, DC and the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities. The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest. In 2008, Washington, DC is reading The Great Gatsby.
