Friday, June 13, 2008 The Carlyle Club Members: $90; Nonmembers: $100
We’ve planned a classic 1930's dinner dance at the glittering Art Deco Carlyle Club. The evening features a seated dinner with music will be by City Rhythm Orchestra. For more information about the excellent band, City Rhythm Orchestra, visit their site at http://www.cityrhythm.com/.
Jean Veloz and her brother Ray Phelps will also be special guests. In 1943, MGM studios filmed a short called Groovie Movie that showcased a style of Lindy Hop made popular in Southern California by Dean Collins. Our heroine, Jean Veloz (nee Phelps) starred in that film. It has since become a favorite of and inspiration for Lindy Hoppers all over the world. We'll show the film short that started it all, Groovie Movie. For more information about Jean Veloz, visit her website at http://www.jeanveloz.com/.
