The Duke Ellington Memorial Bridge is a bold massive structure concrete arches faced with limestone, but the real fun is the sculptures on the pylons flanking the Calvert Street entrances depicting Art Deco gods & goddesses of transportation by sculptor Leon Hermant. Many consider the finest of the four to be the one described in Washington Deco as a ‚Äúthoroughly Wagnerian goddess of speed, racing a streamlined car.‚ÄĚ
